Red Hibiscus

The color of the 50th State's flower was changed to yellow in 1988.  Prior to that, all varieties and colors of the hibiscus were representative of the Territory of Hawaii's flower, even when Hawaii became a state in 1959, hence many representations have been depicted in various literature.  The State flower is a simple blossom, unlike this hybrid with frilly, layered petals.
